ARUSHA: GEITA Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has emerged as an overall Best Exhibitor of OSH 2024 awards. The award came after the Safety and Health exhibition held at General Tyre grounds in Arusha organised by the Occupational Safety and Health Authority to mark World Health Day.
This is the second year in a row that GGML has won the award, having also been named the best exhibitor at the exhibitions held at the Tumbaku grounds in the Morogoro region last year.
At this year’s OSHA exhibition, GGML won the award for the best company focusing on corporate social responsibility (CSR) issues in occupational health and safety projects. They were also awarded as the first runner up in the best company in the mining sector category.
Deputy Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Labour, Youth, Employment and Disability Patrobas Katambi, said the government likes employers who value their employees.
“In this year’s exhibition, I have certainly learned from many companies that you are very loyal and have great integrity in following labour laws in the workplace,” said Mr Katambi who was the chief guest during the awards giving.
GGML’s Health, Safety and Environment, Senior Manager Dr Kiva Mvungi promised that the mine will continue to manage its value of safety first in the workplace.
“GGML for more than 15 years, we have not had a fatality in the workplace nor have we had an employee suffer an injury that prevented them from coming to work the next day,” Dr Mvungi said
